The word I hear most about Emily is “Fearless.” She loves to jump & climb, and has no thought of the consequences! I found her ON the kitchen table after just a quick trip to the bathroom! She is also very girly - we have started having tea parties, playing with baby dolls and trying on clothes. We counted that she has at least 100 words and will repeat anything you say. Emily hugs Joshua when he cries and will fake cry with him. She will point and say “cry” every time she hears someone crying. Emily LOVES strawberries!! She was so mad at me when I told here there are no strawberries in the Cheerios box, even tho they are on the picture on the front. She is a good eater and will often eat her food and then Joshua’s too! Emily gives kisses now. She likes to push Joshua on his trike, but gets mad that she can’t steer and push it herself. She still loves the carousel and this time threw her head back, trying to ride upside-down! She copies everything: she taps her leg to music in the car b/c she sees me do it. I was sitting with one leg out and one leg in putting sunscreen on her. She had both legs out, saw mine and picked up one leg to put it in like mine. She imitates Shawn when he coughs. Emily was copying Joshua when he said yes or no and Joshua got upset and said “No copy me, Emily!“ She is a good sleeper and will tell me “bye” or “night-night” before she falls asleep in the car. She likes to help - she’ll put her cup in the sink, and likes to put things “back”, tho they may or may not stay there… She loves to play chase; she and Joshua will chase each other around the circles downtowns. She’ll say “get you” and then run. She thinks it is so funny to put things down your shirt and then look for them to come out the bottom. She is good on the stairs now and can come down alone. Emily likes books now and will make up words as she’s reading them. Shawn got her a baby doll that talks when you feed it, and she loves to give it cereal, it’s bottle as well as her food and drink. She also wants to put clothes on it. She is getting much better with her fork and spoon, but is still pretty messy. She often says “no” for everything, even when she means “yes”. She loves to do raspberries! I came in and said good morning and she gives me a big raspberry and laughs! She thinks it is funny to pinch me b/c she laughs at my response and then loves getting tickled. Her right eyetooth broke thru this month. She is good at stacking blocks, putting mega blocks together and using the shape sorter. She can undo zippers. She likes to choose her own clothes and will say “no” if I pick something she doesn’t like. She loves Mickey Mouse and Elmo, and will carry the Mickey Mouse around the house with her. She loves hats and her new Mickey Mouse sunglasses. She loves bags and putting things in and taking things out of them.
Her words: apple, banana, yes, no, belly button, hair bow, shoes, socks, clothes, Joshua, mama, daddy, bunny, paci, mouse (Mickey), Elmo, duck (Donald), meow, woof, yogurt, waffle, cup, coke, juice, milk, book, I love you, eat, night-night, hi, hello, bye, shake, hat, glasses, cookie, sticker, flower, bath, water, more, please, burp, excuse me, beep-beep, thank you, c’mon, again, wait, stop, choo-choo, baby, peek-a-boo, again, papa, strawberry, up, upstairs, outside, bear, giraffe, here you go, where go?, there it is, tickle, backpack, get you, hide, get it, okay, back.
Joshua’s thought processes and reasoning skills are improving. He likes to call us an “ankle bot” to get the response of being chased or tickled. Shawn asked once if Joshua wanted a knuckle sandwich, so Joshua asked him later if he wanted an “ankle sandwich.” Joshua loves his new trike and rides it all around downstairs. He also loves to hide things in the bucket in the back. He won’t put his feet on the peddles yet, but can go pretty quick just using his feet. He also loves it when Emily pushes him around on it. Joshua looks out window and says “look mama, a skyscraper!” He’s also learning shapes like sphere, cylinder. He also repeats me: “are you listening to me, mama?” He has loved seeing all the birds that are coming to eat birdseed. There were some bunnies that came into the yard and Josh said, “Bunnies no have wings, no fly! Bunny hop!” He likes to say “Amazing!”, even to random things - the garbage truck coming, birds flying. We went to the bookstore and I asked Joshua what we should get for Emily & Dad. He said a little and pink book for Emily, and a big cars book for Dad. Joshua loves Emily! He thinks it is funny to tickle her neck, and chase her. They both go around making dinosaur noises. Emily was in her pack-n-play while I was in the shower and he told her “night-night” and prayed “no hit, love, thank you God.” He also is starting to test the limits and will ask “like this? Like this? Like this?” when asked to do something. He also likes to comment: “Good idea!” He picks up a lot from his cartoons - he told me “thanks, helping hands!” (from Mickey Mouse clubhouse) and “I cannot believe it!” (from Little Einsteins) He has started saying things are his “favorite”. He is still a tease - when reading a book, he said a t-rex was a “cute bunny”.
We got both kids “puddle jumper” life vests, and they both love the freedom of being able to float around the pool on their own! Joshua can paddle around, but I still stay close to Emily. They both will jump in the water alone and go down the slide without fear.
We also got some new music Cds that are Scripture. Both kids love them and both will do the motions to them. Joshua has favorites, (Think about Phil 4:8, and Go, Go, Go Matt 28:19) and will ask for certain songs (play one about trouble and heart - Take heart, in this world you will have trouble), and will just start singing them on his own (true, right, noble).

4th of July
We had a parade around the neighborhood lake this morning. A friend let Joshua borrow their trike. He would pedal as long as he was pushed, but as soon as we stopped, he'd ask to go again! The solution? Emily started pushing him! = perfect! :)
This afternoon we went to a BBQ at a friend's house with a pool. Both kids are still fish and love the water, but Emily is just fearless! She loves to jump into the water and doesn't mind going under. The only thing that got her out was her desire to eat. Joshua decided to forgo eating and just played the whole time!

Catching up...again
April - Joshua & Emily both had their pictures taken professionally. Joshua was pretty shy, but we got a few good smiles out of him. Emily was all over it! She strutted her stuff right onto the backdrop, plopped down and turned a huge smile to the camera! We all laughed, so she just kept hamming it up! Needless to say, I bought alot of pictures!!
Joshua turned 3 this month and we decided to have a party for him this year. We had it at a bounce house and he, along with about 20 other kids, loved it! He also had fun coming home and opening all the presents! Since then, he thinks every present is for him!
May - Emily is getting her molars and has been a bit cranky and not sleeping well. No wonder, tho - her gums are swollen and bloody, poor thing! We had a vacation to Orlando, and visited Disney and SeaWorld. Joshua loved the dinosaurs at Animal Kingdom, and had a great time meeting Buzz and dancing with Woody at Magic Kingdom. Of course, his absolute favorite was the monorail, the train and the tram! :) Emily loved the carousel at Magic Kingdom. They both really had a great time at SeaWorld! So much, that we ended up going back for a second day. Joshua loved seeing the animals in the dolphin and whale shows, while Emily enjoyed the music and people dancing. Joshua was enthralled by the sharks! We all had a blast feeding the stingrays! If you ask Joshua was we saw in Orlando, he'll start by telling you: sharks, Orca whales, and dolphins. If you ask Emily about whales, she'll tell you they "splash".
June - We did Vacation Bible School and both Joshua and Emily had a great week. I think their favorite was the "water day", where they got to play in little pools and splash pads. Joshua had fun in the big group watching the kids sing and dance. All Emily's molars are in - Yay!! She is talking alot now. Her words include - apple, splash, Joshua (tata), paci, bunny, no, please, stop, I love you, c'mon and banana. She still enjoys eating and we found she loves strawberries! Joshua is still working on counting to 10. He gets stuck after 4 and jumps to 7. We started working on a preschool workbook, where he used scissors and glue. He did really well! He is great at matching and patterns! His imagination has taken off! There are imaginary people and things all over, all the time. He is very interested in what everything is called, why and how it works. He loves to build things with his legos, and most often it is either a plane or some kind of shooting weapon. He has fun "shooting" me and then kissing me to revive me. :)

March 10 - Joshua
What people tell me about him: "He's so serious." "He's such a thinker." When I picked him up from nursery the other day, they told me he told the other kids to "Stop laughing! It's not funny!" Then on the way home he kept saying, "Joshua say: 'Stop yelling!'"
He was playing chase with Shawn and then sat in the windowsill and said: "Daddy run, Joshua watch." I don't think so!! He LOVES to play hide and seek! He likes to pull the blanket off our bed and cover himself in various places around the house and then shout out "Mama find Joshua?" or "Myee find Joshua?"
He was awake in his crib and I went in to check on him. He showed me one foot, then said "there's the other one", then went on to tell me one was small and one was big, and wouldn't be convinced they are the same size!
He loves to spin in circles until he gets dizzy, and then lays on the floor laughing. (Emily copies him, and laughs too.)
He told me at the table "look at me, mama, Joshua growing. Joshua getting big!" He sure is!
Shawn calls Emily "little mama", and so Joshua was doing the same, but then, to get my attention, shouted out, "big mama!"
He was stirring butter in his rice on his own and started asking for help. I didn't come quickly enough because the next thing I heard was "Mama, Rescue me!" (too much Diego & Backyardigans!!)
He absolutely adores Emily. He's been wanting to help, so he has fed her mac-n-cheese. She loved his attention, and he was so excited that she ate the noodles off the spoon! He loves to give her anything off his plate, tho I try to stop that! (She would eat all her food & then his too, if I let her!) I heard him telling her, "like this, Myee; like Joshua." as he showed her how to play with a toy. He asked for Emily to sleep in his crib with him the other night. He loves to give her hugs - tho he usually squeezes all the air out of her, so she doesn't enjoy them quite as much as he does.
I hold Emily's milk cup for her still, just b/c I like to, and I usually put my cheek on her head while she's drinking. Joshua snuggled up to me while she was drinking, and reached out to hold her cup. I gave it to him, and he leaned over and put his cheek on hers. Her eyes were so big and sweet, and he was just adorable! It was one of those moments I think I'll remember forever!!
She fell & hurt her toe. While I was cleaning it, he kept asking to see it, and if she was "all better now". She was still crying when I knelt with her to show Joshua that her toe was better. He took his prized train sticker off his shirt and said, "Myee crying, need sticker" and put it on her shirt!
His nose was bothering him, and he asked for the "pink medicine" (Motrin). I told him he'd already had medicine for his nose - Zyrtec, and asked if he wanted me to put medicine in his nose. He said no, paused and then said, "mouth hurts, mama, medicine in mouth?" !Smart kid!

March 8 - Emily
What people tell me about Emily - "she's so happy!" "what beautiful blue eyes!"
Emily is becoming much more expressive. If you say "I love you" or "night-night" she will blow kisses; when we pray, she says "men" (amen); if you say "good job" she claps; when she hears the microwave beep, she says "du,du,du"; if you say "where is it?" she puts both hands up. She said "shoes" - an appropriate "first word" (after mama, dada and hi) for her! She started saying "ssss" after I blowed on Joshua's food to cool it down. She said "love" today when I told her I loved her. When I picked her up from the nursery last week, I was told she was giving everyone hugs! She has found the cabinets, and loves to take everything out. She loves to stir, and especially likes to play with my plastic bowls. She loves to be outdoors, and isn't afraid of the grass. She really likes to ride in the little red car, and climb on the slide. She is the star of her swim class - the teacher frequently uses her for examples. She loves to kick and splash and isn't afraid to go under water. She likes to play hide and seek with a towel, blanket or even a washcloth. The light was off in our bedroom, but she wandered in anyway. Shawn followed her to see what she was after. He found her at the shoe rack, carefully deciding which pair of shoes she wanted. When she'd chosen, she grabbed them and headed back out the closet! :-)

March 2
I'd been warned about kids taking off their diapers in their crib and smearing poop all over, so was rather anxiously awaiting when it would happen to me. I have to wait no more: Emily did a great job on Saturday!! She is on her second round of antibiotics, which are tearing up her stomach. When I went to get her from her nap, she was sitting in a pool of poop. She still had her diaper on, it had just leaked all over. She had splashed it, so it was all over her onesie, her hands, her face, the bumper, her toys, ... everywhere!! Needless to say, we went straight to the tub! We've had many more messes this week - I sure hope her ears have cleared, because we're ready to be done with antibiotics!!!
On a more fun note - we went shopping for sandals, and Emily cried when I tried a pair on & then put them back b/c they didn't fit. When we found a pair that did fit, she was so excited! Today she proudly showed them to Shawn, and then strutted around in them when he put them on for her. :-)
Also, she's had another tooth break thru - on top, to the right.
Joshua has several new words, including "amazing, cool & maybe." He's also been calling Emily "lil punkin". He says everything in the past happened "yesterday" (sounds like: yes-daaaay.) And if he wants you to read he'll say "mama talking". The English language is so hard! say, talk, speak... He imagination is growing as well. We will drive his truck to the imaginary mailbox & he'll put a key in and take out imaginary toy books, and boxes with toys in them. Then we go to the imaginary grocery store to get milk and bread, and we have to put the imaginary milk into the real fridge!
He wanted a diaper on his lovee bear, but at the same time said that bear doesn't potty because he doesn't eat anything. Interesting equation there...
