March 10 - Joshua

What people tell me about him:  "He's so serious."  "He's such a thinker."  When I picked him up from nursery the other day, they told me he told the other kids to "Stop laughing! It's not funny!" Then on the way home he kept saying, "Joshua say: 'Stop yelling!'"
He was playing chase with Shawn and then sat in the windowsill and said: "Daddy run, Joshua watch."  I don't think so!! He LOVES to play hide and seek!  He likes to pull the blanket off our bed and cover himself in various places around the house and then shout out "Mama find Joshua?"  or "Myee find Joshua?"
He was awake in his crib and I went in to check on him.  He showed me one foot, then said "there's the other one", then went on to tell me one was small and one was big, and wouldn't be convinced they are the same size!
He loves to spin in circles until he gets dizzy, and then lays on the floor laughing.  (Emily copies him, and laughs too.)
He told me at the table "look at me, mama, Joshua growing.  Joshua getting big!" He sure is!
Shawn calls Emily "little mama", and so Joshua was doing the same, but then, to get my attention, shouted out, "big mama!"
He was stirring butter in his rice on his own and started asking for help.  I didn't come quickly enough because the next thing I heard was "Mama, Rescue me!"  (too much Diego & Backyardigans!!)
He absolutely adores Emily.  He's been wanting to help, so he has fed her mac-n-cheese. She loved his attention, and he was so excited that she ate the noodles off the spoon!  He loves to give her anything off his plate, tho I try to stop that!  (She would eat all her food & then his too, if I let her!)  I heard him telling her, "like this, Myee; like Joshua." as he showed her how to play with a toy. He asked for Emily to sleep in his crib with him the other night.  He loves to give her hugs - tho he usually squeezes all the air out of her, so she doesn't enjoy them quite as much as he does.
I hold Emily's milk cup for her still, just b/c I like to, and I usually put my cheek on her head while she's drinking.  Joshua snuggled up to me while she was drinking, and reached out to hold her cup. I gave it to him, and he leaned over and put his cheek on hers.  Her eyes were so big and sweet, and he was just adorable!  It was one of those moments I think I'll remember forever!!
She fell & hurt her toe. While I was cleaning it, he kept asking to see it, and if she was "all better now".  She was still crying when I knelt with her to show Joshua that her toe was better.  He took his prized train sticker off his shirt and said, "Myee crying, need sticker" and put it on her shirt!
His nose was bothering him, and he asked for the "pink medicine" (Motrin).  I told him he'd already had medicine for his nose - Zyrtec, and asked if he wanted me to put medicine in his nose.  He said no, paused and then said, "mouth hurts, mama, medicine in mouth?"  !Smart kid!

March 8 - Emily

What people tell me about Emily - "she's so happy!" "what beautiful blue eyes!"
Emily is becoming much more expressive.  If you say "I love you" or "night-night" she will blow kisses; when we pray, she says "men" (amen); if you say "good job" she claps; when she hears the microwave beep, she says "du,du,du"; if you say "where is it?" she puts both hands up.  She said "shoes" - an appropriate "first word" (after mama, dada and hi) for her!  She started saying "ssss" after I blowed on Joshua's food to cool it down.  She said "love" today when I told her I loved her.  When I picked her up from the nursery last week, I was told she was giving everyone hugs!  She has found the cabinets, and loves to take everything out.  She loves to stir, and especially likes to play with my plastic bowls.  She loves to be outdoors, and isn't afraid of the grass.  She really likes to ride in the little red car, and climb on the slide. She is the star of her swim class - the teacher frequently uses her for examples.  She loves to kick and splash and isn't afraid to go under water.  She likes to play hide and seek with a towel, blanket or even a washcloth.  The light was off in our bedroom, but she wandered in anyway. Shawn followed her to see what she was after.  He found her at the shoe rack, carefully deciding which pair of shoes she wanted.  When she'd chosen, she grabbed them and headed back out the closet!  :-)

March 2

I'd been warned about kids taking off their diapers in their crib and smearing poop all over, so was rather anxiously awaiting when it would happen to me.  I have to wait no more:  Emily did a great job on Saturday!!  She is on her second round of antibiotics, which are tearing up her stomach.  When I went to get her from her nap, she was sitting in a pool of poop.  She still had her diaper on, it had just leaked all over.  She had splashed it, so it was all over her onesie, her hands, her face, the bumper, her toys, ...  everywhere!!  Needless to say, we went straight to the tub!  We've had many more messes this week - I sure hope her ears have cleared, because we're ready to be done with antibiotics!!!
On a more fun note - we went shopping for sandals, and Emily cried when I tried a pair on & then put them back b/c they didn't fit.  When we found a pair that did fit, she was so excited!  Today she proudly showed them to Shawn, and then strutted around in them when he put them on for her.   :-)
Also, she's had another tooth break thru - on top, to the right.
Joshua has several new words, including "amazing, cool & maybe."  He's also been calling Emily "lil punkin".  He says everything in the past happened "yesterday" (sounds like: yes-daaaay.)  And if he wants you to read he'll say "mama talking".  The English language is so hard!  say, talk, speak...  He imagination is growing as well.  We will drive his truck to the imaginary mailbox & he'll put a key in and take out imaginary toy books, and boxes with toys in them.  Then we go to the imaginary grocery store to get milk and bread, and we have to put the imaginary milk into the real fridge!
He wanted a diaper on his lovee bear, but at the same time said that bear doesn't potty because he doesn't eat anything.  Interesting equation there...
