Joshua loves apples! I usually cut them into slices and cut the peel off. On Thursday, while we were trying to get ready to go out, he asks me if he can "hold" the apple. He said he didn't want me to cut it up for him, so I thought, sure, why not, & gave it to him. A few minutes later, I looked over at him & he'd eaten a quarter of it, just taking bites right out of it!! He ate pretty much the whole thing, down to the core! Yay!
Thursday was our 10 year anniversary. We ate a quick lunch outside at the course before we played golf. We had a great time! The weather was perfect, and Shawn says I played better than I used to! (The last time I'd played was the day before Joshua was born, so almost 3 years ago!) Shawn surprised me with a beautiful earrings & necklace set, but what I really enjoyed were the notes he gave me after each hole that had something he loved about me or was thankful for about me! :-) (My favorite: "You let me play golf... ALOT") Then we went out to dinner and a movie. = A very fun and memorable day!!

Jan 25
Emily is talking alot! She says, "thank you" (de-doo), "here you go"(ee-u-go), and "peek-a-boo"(kikah-bah). And her favorite is "go, go, go!" She blows kisses, waves bye, & puts her hands over her eyes for peek-a-boo (facing in, Joshua always did it with his palms facing out). She signs "more" & "all done" but she doesn't always mean it. She likes to go around either clicking or making kissing sounds. She also does raspberries well now. She cut her 6th tooth on the 18th - the bottom left. Now she has 4 on bottom & 2 on top, & it looks like a 3rd is on it's way on the top. She loves to climb & will attempt anything! She is doing alot better at being left in nursery - the last couple times she has only cried for a minute or two and then started playing! Emily took all her milk from a cup just like Joshua's this morning - a first! I guess we can finally put away all the bottles - Yay! One lady told me the other day that Emily looks like she's doing the jitterbug because she walks around swinging her arms in front of her. :-)
Joshua had a great time at the library last week! He would go around stacking books on the stroller & then he's sit and read each one to himself while I kept Emily entertained. The only way we were able to leave after an hour and a half was to take a stack of books with us to read at home!
He also loved the train yard on Sunday with Shawn. He's been asking where the train is every time we cross the tracks, & we started telling him the train was at the train yard. So, of course it follows that he asked to go to the train yard... He loved it! He has a whole progression of train sounds that he does, starting with chug-chug, then choo, then a horn, then a puff-puff ... It sounds just like the train videos we've watched on you-tube!
He is starting to verbalize more of his thoughts now. He asked Shawn a "why?" question last week - and so it begins... :-) His two favorite questions right now are: what does it say, and what is it carrying. For "say", it could mean what sound does it make, or read it to me. He repeats the exact sounds Emily makes and says "Mayee says 'bababa'". For "carrying," he wants to know what's inside - especially mack trucks, buses, cement mixers, ...

Catching up -
Jan 6: Emily was hilarious with food tonight! I was eating a slice of bread while feeding her, and when I popped the last piece in my mouth, she started screaming. I got another slice and offered her some, and she lit up in smile and ate almost the while thing! She also did the sign for "eat" and "more" when she noticed her cake on the counter!
We enjoyed the beautiful weather by going to the playground. Joshua wanted to go down the slide standing up. And he successfully climbed the OUTSIDE of the tunnel slide several times. Emily loved the swing, and had fun going down the slide too. Joshua likes to go down holding Emily, but she's not always as excited about it, since he usually squeezes the air out of her...
Jan 8: Emily definitely knows names. She knows her own, Joshua's and momma & daddy. Joshua loves to play "hide & seek" and his favorite is when Emily comes looking for him. He takes all the pillows off the couch and hides under them. Just his eyes peek out and when Emily spots him, she starts squealing, jumping and laughing!
On our walk, we were watching some cement mixers in action, including a pumper. One of the drivers spotted us and invited Joshua over. He let Joshua sit in the cab and even pull the horn! Joshua had a blast!! It sounds like he's calling them "cupcake mumers," but he's actually saying "concrete mixers."
Jan 10: When Shawn came home, Joshua yelled out "Hi, dear!" I guess that's what you're s'posed to say when he comes home, since that's what we both say to each other.
Emily makes appropriate noises for both dinosaurs and trucks. She was walking around holding Joshua's T-Rex and roaring. She will also wave cars around and make a humming noise. She is pretty good at the shake'n'go cars - she stands and shakes them up and down and then even sets them on the track - sometimes in the right spot, and loves it when they speed off! She still loves chasing balls around the house.
Jan 11: I started a little bit of potty training with Joshua today. The other day, Shawn had told him he has to go in the potty if he wants to go to school. I think he really just wants to ride the school BUS, but it is a great motivator for him. He used the potty every time I set him on it today, which was every 30 min, but he still doesn't tell me if he needs to go. He did ask me at one point if he could go to school now. :-)

Jan 2, Emily's First Birthday
Emily had a great time with her birthday cake! We showed her the whole cake, and she got a handful of icing, which she promptly shoved in her mouth. Then we cut her a piece and she ate the whole thing! She was a beautiful mess by the end, but she loved every bite!!
